Artist Residencies

AUTUMN & WINTER RESIDENCIES

At Mud and Wool, we believe creativity doesn’t need a label. Whether you’re a full-time artist, a part-time maker, or someone nurturing a hobby or long-held passion, this residency is about giving you dedicated time and space to create.

There is no such thing as imposter syndrome here — only curiosity, exploration, and the freedom to make.

We can’t wait to hear from you.

Time ,space and focus for your creative practice to develop work in a quiet , rural environment

At Mud and Wool, our winter programme offers creative residencies designed to provide time, space, and focus for creative development.

Residents are invited to immerse themselves in their practice with minimal interruption, while engaging lightly with the local community. As part of the residency, we ask artists to contribute one completed work to leave with us and to take part in a single community event during their stay such as an informal gathering at the end of their residency with the local community to talk about their work.

Beyond this, the emphasis is on independent making, reflection, and exploration. This is not a holiday or a retreat—it is a working residency that supports serious creative practice within a quiet, supportive environment.

What’s included

  • Accommodation in a quiet, peaceful rural setting, with access to 14 acres of land and views across to the Cambrian Mountains.

  • A beautifully renovated cottage, offering both comfort and space to work creatively.

  • Access to a large covered barn—ideal for bigger, messier projects or for those who prefer to work outdoors while still being sheltered.

  • Use of an indoor studio space, complete with large tables suitable for more expansive work.

  • A weekly check-in with Adam or Jo, ideally over a shared meal or a cup of tea, offering a relaxed space to talk through your work and ideas. This is entirely led by the resident and is not prescriptive in any way.

    • While there is plenty of space for solitude, previous residents have shared that they value the sense of presence at Mud and Wool—there is often someone around for a chat or a cup of tea when you need a break.

What’s required

At Mud and Wool, we place very few restrictions on our residencies. The only expectation is that you use your time to focus on your creative practice. This is not an outcome-led residency—we believe it is vital to offer creatives the time and space, in a peaceful and tranquil setting, to explore, experiment, and see what naturally emerges from their work.

As part of the residency, we ask that you:

  • Complete an application form. Successful candidates will then be invited to an informal video call with Jo and Adam.

  • Leave a piece of work at Mud and Wool at the end of your residency, to inspire future creatives.

  • Engage with the local community through a workshop, talk, or small gathering to share your practice.

  • Provide a short written summary at the end of your residency, which may be shared on the Mud and Wool website.
