Sally Stafford

Artist in Residence, February 2025

I’m a painter of semi abstract landscapes inspired by the changing seasons and the wildflower meadows near my home in Wiltshire. During my residency I really wanted to reconnect with Wales where I grew up and to make art works other than paintings. Mud and Wool provided the perfect place for this. My February residency completely exceeded my expectations. The cottage was warm comfortable and well equipped. I had use of the large barn for clay-based work and the light filled studio for drawing. Jo and Adam are welcoming, helpful, and generous hosts. The centre is set in a beautiful quiet area with far reaching views to the mountains with many spectacular sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing evenings. I feel my residency hugely benefited my art practice giving me the opportunity to try new ideas and enabled me to return refreshed to my painting practice. A real ongoing benefit from the residency was meeting Claire who was the other artist in residence in February.
